Derailed Again

As so often happens, my health and fitness train was derailed by an out of town trip. After the Miami trip, I completely lost all my motivation. It amazes me how I can go from loving to ride my bike every morning to being unable to even force myself to get out and ride – and the change occurred in only one week. I have been telling myself for nearly three months now that I need to get back out and ride again, but I just can’t seem to make myself do it. Logic tells me that once I get out there I will enjoy it, but for some reason I can’t seem to do it. As I predicted in my last post, months could go by. And nearly three months has now passed.

The good news is that I am still going to karate class twice a week. Paying for a year in advance may be one of the smartest things I’ve ever done. I went through a period of a few weeks where I really did not want to go and if I was paying monthly I probably would have quit. But having paid for a full year, I do not have the option to quit. At this point, I seem to have gotten past that rough spot and am again looking forward to class most of the time. This Saturday, I test for my first rank increase. So next Tuesday, I should get my yellow belt.

I have gained a little weight back, but I’m still down about 15 pounds from where I started. I weighed in this morning at 228 (36.9% bodyfat). It’s frustrating that I let myself backslide again, but if I can get myself moving again, it will only take a week or two to get back to where I was before the Miami trip.

More importantly, I can still reach my goal of losing my excess bodyfat by summer of 2009.
